Is Vision Insurance with the Cost?

Many patients wonder if Vision Insurance actually provides any benefit when applying it towards contact lenses, eyeglasses, sunglasses, or eye exams. It most cases it seems that it is not worth the additional yearly costs, but each plan is so different and what you pay compared to the next person may vary. Most plans set limits to how many pairs of glasses you can receive benefits for and many times will only allow one pair every two years. These vision plans will also reset yearly whether you use them or not; so it is better to put your insurance plan to good use rather than let it drain your account. If you have insurance and you want to make sure your benefits are utilized before they expire feel free to reach out to us today to go over your plan and benefits.

Can I use my Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account for Eyeglasses, Contacts, Sunglasses, & Eye Exams?

FSA & HSA Dollars put to Good Use

The short answer is yes, you can use FSA or HSA cards to make a medical purchase for your eyeglasses. You can also use the FSA funds to pay for eye exam services such as your eye exam, contact lens evaluation, photo testing, contact lens supplies and even sunglasses. To make sure that your services are covered you can always double check with your HR department to see what they need to ensure your coverage. Many employers will give you a Visa or Mastercard that has your prepaid FSA funds already loaded. You can use the FSA credit/debit card to pay your bill for your glasses or eye services. There is generally a toll free number on the back and possibly a web link that can give you quick information about the card including the current available balance. How you process your payment depends on how your particular FSA plan is setup. If you were not given a prepaid FSA card then you may need to pay the costs up front and be reimbursed later, Either way you can ask your Optician or Optometrist for a detailed receipt to submit to your HR, which they may ask for anyways.

To make your process smoother and easier we can quickly email a detailed receipt over to you in an instant. Even if you are running late to use your FSA dollars up, you can order your products quickly even though you may not be able to pick them up until the following year. If you have exceess funds left over you can use it to buy multiple pairs of glasses, prescription sunglasses, computer glasses, driving glasses, safety goggles, and many other important eye materials. Contact us today to find out more about how you can use your FSA money quickly and easily.
